McDonald’s Managing Director Mark Hawthorne said McDonald’s is naturally pleased with the decision granting resource consent to develop a new restaurant in the Auckland suburb of Balmoral.
The Commissioners’ found that the new restaurant will attract economic and employment benefits to Balmoral stating that McDonald’s will provide valuable employment and training opportunities for a significant number of mainly young people.
Mr Hawthorne said McDonald’s went to significant lengths to develop a restaurant design that would fit in with the Balmoral shopping centre.
“This includes a much smaller footprint than the current building on the site and the commissioners’ state that with the proposed landscaping the area will benefit from a more managed appearance, lifting the visual amenity of the immediate area.
“Fundamentally McDonald’s believes the site is suitable for a restaurant and we have tried very hard to ensure that we have the right mix of built development, landscaping and lighting.
“We have not had the chance to review the conditions of consent with our legal advisors so it would be premature to comment further.”
